Time and again, we hear about how drinking water regularly ought to do wonders for our bodies. And once again, we dismiss it and don’t commit to the recommended eight to eleven glasses of water per day. We assume that whatever these benefits are, they cannot be worth the endless trips to the bathroom… or can they?

They can indeed! These benefits apply to so many different aspects of our health (and even beauty) that we would be truly letting ourselves down if we didn’t at least try to incorporate the daily amount of water that our body needs.

Here are some of the many ways water helps your body:

It gives you more energy

Water keeps your bodily systems functioning properly and it boosts your metabolism, which impacts your energy levels. Staying regularly hydrated is especially important while exercising as it improves your physical performance which affects your endurance and strength.

This also extends to your mental energy; a lack of hydration affects one’s mood, concentration, memory and increases anxiety.

It helps with weight loss

There are several ways water is credited in aiding in weight loss, mostly in how it burns calories. Since it boosts your metabolism, it stimulates the process of breaking down fat and carbohydrates.

In addition to that, water is also important for getting rid of any bloating. When your body is dehydrated, it starts to hold onto the water that it has, which often results in puffiness and bloatedness.

It clears your skin

Pretty much the number one advice for skincare is drinking water regularly. Water flushes out toxins which in turn evens out the skin tone. And by keeping your skin hydrated, it will reduce acne and puffiness.

When your skin is dry, any wrinkles you might have become more apparent, and your face might look duller overall; drinking water will help brighten your face and revive its elasticity.

It helps with digestion and getting rid of waste

Your digestive system needs a lot of water for it to function properly. You need water to break down food and move the waste along the digestive tract. Water also helps in relieving any digestive issues like indigestion or constipation.

Water also helps your kidneys filter out toxins and waste from your blood more effectively. The more water you drink, the better off your blood will be.

It wards off illness

Since drinking water helps with digestion and food breakdown, it also aids in nutrient-absorption by distributing vitamins and minerals to different organs, keeping them healthy. Certain medical conditions can be avoided or alleviated by drinking water, such as kidney stones, hypertension, urinary tract infection and high blood pressure.
