Ingredients

2 ½ cups warm water (110 to 115 degree) 2 Tbsp. active dry yeast 2 Tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 3 Tbsp. vegetable or canola oil 5 ½ - 6 cups all-purpose flour, sifted

Method

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water* and sprinkle sugar on top. Let the yeast “activate” for 10 minutes or until it gets very foamy. Stir in the salt, oil and flour. Knead the dough for a couple of minutes until it’s well combined and pulls away easily from the bowl.
  • Cover the dough and let sit for about 20 minutes to rise.
  • Grease a baking sheet. Divide the dough into halves and roll into two loafs. Feel free to add more flour on your working top if the dough gets sticky. Place the loaves on the greased baking sheet and take a knife cut slits on top of the loaves diagonally.
  • While you preheat your oven to 300F, allow loaves sit aside for a few minutes. Then bake them for 25-30 minutes or until they get gold brown**.

Notes: *Make sure it's warm water and NOT BOILING, for boiling water kills the yeast. **You can mix 1 egg white + 1 Tbsp. of water and brush the top of the loaves with this egg wash to get a crispier crust on the outside.
