As the weather gets colder, every family will soon be huddled together in their living room, mostly seeking warmth from the heat building up in the small space they’ll be occupying till spring.

How cosy, right?

And since the entire family will be cooped up in the same spot for at least three months, isn’t it worth adding a few touches to give it that extra snug feeling?

If your living room lacks that cosy vibe, you can transform it with these simple touches that are guaranteed to turn your living room into the perfect spot for some good old fashioned quality time with the family.

Throws

The more throws, the merrier! These fluffy things serve both practical and aesthetic reasons: anyone lounging in the living room could snuggle up in them, and if they aren’t being used they still add texture or a pop of colour to the room.

Lighting

Never underestimate the effect lighting can have on creating an atmosphere. Adding lamps and fairy lights create a more laid-back mood in a room.

Candles

The soft lighting of scented candles is perfect for producing a warm ambience. Seasonal scents like pumpkin spice, peppermint or eucalyptus are an added bonus as they are comforting scents and make a room feel infinitely cozier!

Neutral colours

Neutral colours like beiges and nudes are calming colours, so are warm tones like browns and oranges. Considering that a living room is where one spends most of their time, being surrounded by neutral colours keeps you from feeling overwhelmed when all you want to do is relax.

Fluffy rugs

Fluffy anything is a great way to make a room feel more comfortable, and having a warm rug on the floor stops your feet from touching the undoubtedly freezing floors.

Paintings, prints and photos

Make use of the wall space by hanging up photos of the family, posters or artwork. Adding pictures makes a room feel homely and personalized, which in turn makes it more inviting for the family and reminds them of all the memories they have and why they like spending time together.
