  This is always a challenging topic for parents! Primarily I would encourage you to look at this from an 8 year old’s perspective and not from an adult lens. What you can do is ask your child , what does love mean to her? Also I would encourage you to ask her about the qualities she sees in the person she “loves” most likely they will look like general qualities of friendship at 8 years old and you can try to catch answers that indicate a good understanding of what children love about one another such as kindness, respect, liking similar things etc. Additionally, you can take this moment to reinforce some ideas that your daughter has on good friendships, what love means as well as your own values as a family in regards to relationships.
